Anonymous Users MUST include email in their comment to be entered in drawing. We will pick pick the top 5 qualifying comments on Friday December 8th 2006 at 12pm EST.

Get started already.

UPDATE 12/01 - We will allow multiple submissions (within reason), make sure to submit before friday 12/08

UPDATE 12/04 - Feel free to Leave comments about who's Haiku you think is best, the totally unbias'ed judging panel (Steve + Evan) will take this into account. And by unbiased i mean totally biased.

  56. Anonymous Just helping with judging.. | 12/06/2006 3:34 AM |

Okay i'll give an honest breakdown of who have the best haiku so far. I'm completely neutral and unbiased..because I didn't even enter the contest(my company gives us vista and word for free :P). Also I have only considered poems which qualify as HAIKU because some people have been writing limricks which are much easier to write and this isn't fair to the people who followed the rules (to all those who don't know haikus have 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second line, and 5 in the last line.

In order, here are my rankings.

    1. Bob's haiku is probably the best so far. He's got the most "microsoft" related poem so far and its pretty creative how he made the syllables fit. Also the person who wrote those "hate haikus" about Bob are pretty desperate to win.

    1. (tied with Bob) j.ellos is really witty and I think that this is probably one of the most difficult things to achieve in a Haiku. Very well done.

    3. I also really liked kayla3400@hotmail.com's poem even though its rather short (doesn't contain multiple haikus) because it does plays on the double meaning of "Tiger" and Leopard"

    4. I think marcelo should also win. His haiku's aren't particularly poetic but are nonetheless really funny (I liked the aids one most)

    5. The consilidation prize (just Vista) should be awarded to Robert. Its pretty sad that he can barely pay for his daughter's tuition so he can't afford to buy vista. What makes this stand out from other "I'm broke" haikus is that this person actually gives a legit excuse.

  57. Blogger Chad | 12/06/2006 3:53 PM |

    My winning poem
That deals too much with Vista
    That I can’t afford.

    No installation…
    Because there’s no computer,
    So now what to do?

    I have an idea!
    You give me a computer
    Along with Vista.

    So then I’m assured
I’ve done this for a reason
    Instead of for fun

    Vista would be great
    To actually use it
    Instead of for looks

    All kidding aside,
Vista would be great to have.
    Computer, I’ll buy :)

  58. Anonymous Kevin.Rose | 12/06/2006 4:44 PM |

Funny to see how each of the comments recommending bob seem the same... seach the page for "so far" and you'll see what I mean. Coincidence?

Scrappy, J.ello, and Jaytech seem to be the only ones sticking to the rules - with true Haiku and something Microsoft would actually like to hear.

BTW, thanks for the laugh Jaytech!

Still seems many people are not understanding what haiku is. It is not about writing 5-7-5 sylabales in separate lines. It is 2-3 phrases separated by gramatical break that would fit in aproximately 5-7-5 morae. So if Bob writes 5-7-5 without thinking about phrases it does not mean it is haiku.

"MicrosoftIsAwesome.com is open only to legal residents of the 48 contiguous United States, Hawaii, and the District of Columbia"

You guys really need to think about making a contest for us Brits. Americans get all the nice things in life.

PS. Just so that this isn't a whining post I'll post somethin constructive: "merry christmas to all's" poetry is f*cking awesome. His gate's poem has got inspiration.

Uh, I believe the contest ended at 12pm. So who won?

I think it'll take them a while to post the winners. Maybe Evan and Steve are at work?

You also have to remember that it takes time to read poetry.

Unfortunately for everyone else, I won all 5 copies of Vista and 3 out of four copies of office. The final winner of office will be posted in approximately 3 months.

Hah, probably not us since we didn't get an e-mail. I'm with Jaytech though, I'd love to know which haiku's you guys voted best.

Evan Reiser is a Troll. He fakes his domain contact information along with his fictitious-sounding name. And he publishes fantasy claims-to-fame he could never achieve in real life because he's such a loser.

AND NOW he deletes post to try to cover up the fact that he A FRAUD. Too bad someone already archived it!
